Australia Awards – June 2017 Intake

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

Q: What are the eligibility requirements to apply for an Australia Awards Scholarships?

Applicants must meet ALL general eligibility criteria AND the Bangladesh-specific criteria.

General criteria

  • not be married, engaged to, or a de facto of a person who holds, or is eligible to hold, Australian or New Zealand citizenship or permanent residency, at any of the application, selection or mobilisation phases;
  • satisfy all requirements of the Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP) for an Australian Student Visa (sub-class 500);
  • not be current serving military personnel;
  • not be applying for another long-term Australia Award unless they have resided outside of Australia for twice the length of the total time that they were in Australia (for example, a previous awardee who has been on an Australia Awards Scholarship in Australia for four years will not be eligible to apply for another Australia Awards Scholarship until they have been home for eight years);
  • satisfy the admission requirements of the institution at which the award is to be undertaken (this may mean that award will be withdrawn if the recipient cannot satisfy the institution's admission requirements.)

Generally, scholarships will not be available for courses of study in Australia where the applicant already has achieved that qualification and the qualification is deemed to be equivalent to the Australian qualification.

Bangladesh specific criteria

  • be a citizen of Bangladesh;
  • the proposed field of study should be in a priority sector indicated in the Country Profile;
  • have the following English Language Proficiency with validity until 1 June 2017:
    • an overall International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic score of at least 6.5, with no individual band less than 6.0. Or;
    • a TOEFL paper-based test score of at least 580, with a minimum of 4.5 in the test of written English, a TOEFL Internet-based score of at least 92, with a minimum of 21 in all subtests. Or;
    • a Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic) overall score of 58, with no communicative skill score less than 50.

Q: Do I need to get accepted by an Australian University first before I apply for the scholarship?

No. Placements will be done by the Australia Awards Office for successful applicants. You do not need a letter of acceptance from the university.

Q: Does program have an age limit?

There is no upper age limit. Applicants must be at least 18 years old to apply.

Q: What are the work experience requirements?

Applicants must have at least two years of full time work experience in a field relevant to their proposed study program. Part time work experience will not be counted.

Q: Do I need to submit evidence of work experience upon application?

Yes, applicants need to submit evidence of work experience by submitting completed referee reports signed by the work supervisor and their CV.

Q: Are employees from private companies eligible to apply?

There is no specific target group for this June 2017 intake. Applicants working in any organisation meeting the criteria will be able to apply.

Q: Can a self-employed individual apply for a scholarship?

Yes, self-employed individuals meeting the eligibility criteria will be able to apply.
