Australia Awards – Intake 2017

Australia Awards Scholarships(AAS) 2017 intake is now closed.

Eligibility Criteria

Australia Awards applicants must meet all eligibility requirements detailed in the Scholarships Policy Handbook, available at:
www.dfat.gov.au/about-us/publications/Pages/australia-awards-scholarships-policy-handbook.aspx;
It is a pre-condition of accepting an Australia Awards Scholarships that awardees return to their home country to take up a position that utilises their study for a minimum period of two years.

Eligibility criteria include but are not limited to:

  • be able to identify themselves under one of the four profiles
  • meet profile specific requirements available at:
    1. Profile 1
    2. Profile 2
    3. Profile 3
    4. Profile 4
  • be a Pakistani citizen currently residing in Pakistan for at least 24 months
  • not have applied for or be entitled to permanent residency or citizenship in Australia or New Zealand
  • satisfy Australian Government requirements for international student visas for entry to Australia (health, character etc.)
  • be able to provide a Police Security Clearance Certificate at the time of visa application
  • not hold another scholarship
  • not have held a foreign scholarship in the 24 months preceding the application (24 months are calculated from the date of arrival back in Pakistan to the closing date for receipt of applications)
  • be applying to commence a new course of study and not be seeking support for a course already commenced in Australia (on-going study programs will not be supported)
  • be able to take up the scholarship in the year for which it is offered
  • have outlined a case that is clear about their objectives and motivation to make a contribution to development in Pakistan
  • apply for courses that fall within the priority areas identified above
  • satisfy the admission requirements of the Australian tertiary institution and the course to be undertaken
  • have relevant academic background to proposed study in Australia
  • be applying for a Masters level course
  • have completed 16 years of education
  • not be above 45 years of age at the time of submitting the application form
  • have at least five years of work experience (Profile 1 and 2) and two years of work experience (Profile 3 and 4) in the field in which they are applying. Volunteer work experience will be considered but internships will not be considered as work experience
  • be able to demonstrate the ability to meet the English Language Proficiency requirements for the Scholarship at the time of application. The accepted English language tests are IELTS and TOEFL undertaken at the candidate’s own expense. The required IELTS score is an overall band of 6.5 with no band less than 6.0
    1. A paper-based TOEFL overall score of at least 580, with a minimum of 4.5 in the test of written English or an internet-based TOEFL score of at least 92, with a minimum of 21 in all subtests.

Special conditions

Applicants must also meet the following country specific conditions:

  • applicants must submit online applications on OASIS at https://oasis.dfat.gov.au
  • for Masters by research degree, applicants must provide the outline of the research proposal (up to 1000 words), and have in-principle agreement (letter or email) from a research supervisor at their chosen university in Australia.

[Note: Provision of false or falsified documents at any stage of the scholarship cycle will render the applicant ineligible or be grounds for scholarship offer withdrawal.]
